How to Get Rid of Rats in Georgia
If you have rats, you need to act fast. These pests are not only dangerous to your home and your health; they can also spread extremely quickly, making infestations even more difficult to get rid of the longer they go on.
While rats are difficult to get rid of, there are several steps you can take to eliminate an infestation:
Thoroughly clean your home
Remove trash and fix moisture issues
Store food in airtight containers
Remove clutter throughout your property
Set traps or bait stations
Work with a professional
Why Do I Have Rats?
Our houses are the perfect environment for rats to thrive; they’re warm, protected from the harsh outdoor environment, and often have a steady supply of food. If you don’t take the right precautions, it’s very easy to end up with an infestation. Taking some time to make your home less attractive or accessible to rodents is the best way to keep these pests out of your property. We recommend clearing out excess clutter, cleaning up trash or dirty dishes quickly, and sealing any entry points that rodents could use to sneak indoors.

Homemade Rat Traps
Rats have much larger bodies than mice, which unfortunately means that traditional snap-traps aren’t generally as effective. Thankfully, there’s a DIY method that can help control rat populations: the bucket trap. To set up the bucket trap, follow these steps:
Get a 5-gallon bucket and coat the bottom with peanut butter.
Place the bucket near areas that rats frequently wander through.
Lean a ramp leading up to the edge of the bucket.
Wait until rats fall in. They will be unable to escape.
Once you’ve successfully trapped a rat in the bucket, you can either fill it with water to let the rodent drown or you can release them far away from your home in their natural habitat. Whichever method you choose, be sure to handle the rodent with care and wear protective equipment like gloves.
